When you live outside of the city limits or in an unincorporated area, you’re more aware of the value of water and of the maintenance and care it takes to manage your own residential well than the typical city-dweller. At Bradley & Son’s, we know what it’s like to take care of your family and their water needs.
We can help you evaluate your well and conduct a pump test for your existing home or when you’re considering a purchase. While we don’t design irrigation systems ourselves, we can provide valuable information to your landscape architect or irrigation designer. They’ll want to know how many GPM and at what pressure.
We’ll provide you with an evaluation of your current pump and make a recommendation for a pump that will run efficiently and effectively. Since it’s cooled by the water it’s pumping, one of the most damaging ways for a pump to run is to cycle off and on constantly. If you’re burning through your pump motor every 2 or 3 years, have us take a look at your landscape irrigation needs. We’ll suggest a system that will perform right and keep your pump working for years. We also provide Well Inspections for current pump performance (a requirement for whenever a home is bought/sold). Serving Fresno, Madera and surrounding areas.
You most likely don’t need regular maintenance. Variables to be aware of though are weather (especially freezing temperatures) and electricity, which isn’t always predictable. If you have questions about your pump or well performance, give us a call.
We’ve been drilling domestic wells in the Central Valley for over forty years.
We’ve drilled thousands of wells, making tens of thousands of valley residents very happy with their reliable source of fresh well-water.
We make the complicated permitting, design, drilling, and development process simple.
We run five full drilling rig operations so we can serve our residential clients as quickly as possible.
Here are answers to some common questions.
The cost of your project includes the time and fees involved with filing the needed permits on your behalf. Our long experience and knowledge of city permitting processes helps us get through the system quickly and correctly.
We work with you to determine your domestic needs, based on your projected use. Then we’ll design the system, select the appropriate components, prepare a bid, and select the well site on your property.
We use mud rotary drilling which is the most sophisticated and speedy method to drill and develop your well. The hole is drilled by the drill rig’s rotating bit and cuttings are removed by continuous circulation of a drilling fluid. Once the desired depth is reached, the drill fluids are reconditioned for casing installation.
Once the hole is drilled, the casing and gravel pack are installed in to the hole. The casing and gravel pack prevent the hole from caving in. The gravel pack acts as a filter to allow water to pass-through but not sediment.
Well development improves the flow of water through the earth surrounding the borehole. Drilling is disruptive and can alter the hydraulic characteristics of materials near the borehole. This can sometimes result in reduced water flow. To prevent this, and give you a well which yields more water, well development removes sand, clay, and other clogging sediments.
Most of our domestic well projects will use submersible pumps. They’re very efficient and work for very deep wells. We’ll select a pump size that meets your needs. We’ll also select the right pressurized storage tank which provides you with a steady supply of water in between pump cycles. We’ll recommend the appropriately sized tank to give you fewer pump starts and cycles, which increases the life of your motor, starters, switches, and relays.
Do not dump or rinse containers of pesticides, paints, fertilizer or other chemicals near your well or any water source.
Maintain a clean well site, free of debris and weeds that may attract mice and other rodents which could ruin your wiring.
Spray for insects if you notice nests near your pump. We receive hundreds of calls every summer because insects crawl up between electrical contact points which can kill power to the pump.
Know where your electrical lines are buried and take care to not sever your electrical supply with any trenching or other digging equipment.
If you’re without water after a cold snap, take a hair dryer out to your well and thaw out the small frozen pipe under the pressure switch. Wrap your pipes, especially around the pressure sensor, to help prevent freezing.
